Dual-Weapon & Shield Architecture in Crimson Moon
Combat in Crimson Moon is built around a classless armament system where your offensive rhythm, crowd control, and defensive survivability are dictated by the weapons and shields slotted at the Loadout Station inside Sanctus Clypeus. Rather than locking your character into a fixed warrior or caster archetype, every Nephilim carries two complete weapon sets into the fallen city of Gildenarch. Once you know the armory, our 9-gear-slot builds guide shows how to combine them into six verified archetypes:
- Primary Set (One-Handed Weapon + Off-Hand Shield): Combines fast melee slashes or crushing hammer strikes with an active off-hand shield. Critically, shields in Crimson Moon are not passive stat sticks; each shield provides its own Weapon Art (such as Angelic Bulwark, Shield Bash, Fireball, or Ice Trail), allowing your primary set to trigger two separate active abilities on independent cooldowns.
- Secondary Set (Two-Handed Polearm): Heavy halberds, glaives, poleaxes, and great axes engineered for sweeping crowd control, extended reach, and high-impact stagger pressure against elite District Vessels.

How Purification & Gajov Rarity Upgrades Work
Developer Team Metal (ProbablyMonsters) published a dedicated systems explainer clarifying two mechanics that frequently confuse players managing their weapon collection:
- Purification Resets Baseline Quality to Common: When you discover a high-tier weapon during a Ward hunt (such as a Rare or Epic blade) and purify it, that armament is permanently added to your collection at Common quality, regardless of the rarity tier it rolled when it dropped. Purification unlocks the weapon template for future Loadout Station selection.
- Gajov Raises the Minimum Quality Floor Everywhere: Once a weapon is unlocked in your collection, bring it to Gajov the vampire blacksmith inside Sanctus Clypeus. Spending Souls with Gajov permanently increases that item’s minimum quality everywhere. If you upgrade a weapon to Uncommon with Gajov, it will only appear at Uncommon quality or higher in all future runs—both when equipped directly at the Loadout Station and when found as random loot from enemies or chests in Gildenarch.
- Numerical values and patch scalings reflect live retail release version 1.0.0 for Crimson Moon.
- Cross-verified against official developer patch notes and active Steam community databases.
